Cinnamon, also known as true or Ceylon cinnamon, is an evergreen tree native to Sri Lanka, in the Lauraceae family. It was used by the ancient Egyptians during the embalming process and in ancient Rome it was so highly prized that it was once more valuable than gold, burned at funerals of the elite and given as an extravagant gift among emperors and nobles.
